2012 Top 100: Health & Beauty Aids

12/12/2012
Apparently, beauty is everything; at least to these companies and their loyal consumers. This market posted growth across the board with innovative health and beauty products and business strategies.

The Este Lauder Companies Inc.

The Este Lauder Companies Inc. had strong sales growth in every geographic region and product category in 2011. Notably, it recorded the best performance in North America in a decade. The company also established market leadership in China in prestige, and became the leader in skin care in the important fast-growing travel retail channel. But a shadow fell over business gains in November 2011 when Evelyn H. Lauder passed away at the age of 75. She served as the company’s Senior Corporate Vice President and Head of Fragrance Development Worldwide, but was perhaps best known for her work in bringing global awareness to women’s health. In 1992, she co-created the Pink Ribbon, now recognized as the worldwide symbol of breast health, and launched the Este Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Campaign.

Elizabeth Arden
Alberto Culver’s residency on this list ended when it was acquired by Unilever in 2010, making room for Elizabeth Arden to join the ranks as No. 10. As a global prestige beauty products company with an extensive portfolio of brands sold in more than 100 countries, Elizabeth Arden reported net sales of $1.176 billion, an increase of 6.5 percent in 2011. That same year, it grew sales of fragrances to retail customers in Europe by 20 percent.
