Avon Names Business Transformation Leader

1/31/2013
Avon Products, Inc. announced the appointment of David Powell as Senior Vice President of Business Transformation and Global Supply Chain, effective February 4, 2013. Powell will report to Sheri McCoy, Avon's chief executive officer, and will join the company's Executive Committee.

Powell will lead Avon's Global Supply Chain organization, including sourcing, manufacturing, logistics and delivery. In addition, he will be responsible for the company's business transformation efforts, including Process Excellence and the Global Project Management Office for cost savings, as well as the company's Service Model Transformation project, which aims to simplify how Avon Representatives do business with the company.

"Taking complexity out of the organization while maintaining high product quality and improving service quality for our Representatives is essential to Avon's successful turnaround and future growth," said McCoy. "David has a strong track record of leading business transformation and generating growth for large global companies. He is the right fit for this critical job and a great addition to the Avon management team."

Over the course of his career, Powell has successfully led multiple business transformation efforts, including the implementation of new processes for operations, supply chain, research and development, IT, product branding and sales, both domestically and internationally.

Most recently, Powell was the Managing Partner for Midreef Partners, LLC where he has worked since July 2012 and provided advisory support to medical technology, turn-around, and private/venture equity firms.

Prior to that, Powell spent more than 10 years with Johnson & Johnson, most recently as President of Johnson & Johnson's Medical Devices Unit in Japan, with 2,000 employees and 12 business units. In this capacity, he was a key leader in Asia-Pacific regional strategy development, building a sustainable and growth-focused transparent organization to exceed market share targets for key products.

Before that, he served as Worldwide President of Advanced Sterilization Products, the Johnson & Johnson business focused on sterilization, disinfection, and infection control to transform the product pipeline and improve market share, quality, profitability and worldwide sales. He dramatically improved R&D processes across the United States, EU, Russia, the Middle East, Japan, China, India and Brazil to build sales growth, profitability, and corporate re-branding while launching several new key products that exceeded first-year sales goals by nearly 20 percent.

Earlier in his career, Powell held a series of brand, operations and strategy leadership positions at companies such as Ethicon, HAVI Food Services in Hong Kong, and Urologix.
