CGT Names 2014 CIO of the Year
During a special awards ceremony at the 2014 Business & Technology Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. on October 24, 2014, CGT named David Stahl, Chief Information Officer for the company formerly known as Hillshire Brands (now part of Tyson Foods) as the 2014 CIO of the Year. This one of-a-kind award honors the Chief Information Officer who has made the largest demonstrable business impact within his or her consumer goods organization through the implementation and successful use of technology.
CGT collected nominations from the consumer goods community, narrowed the list down to an outstanding group of three finalists, and relied on its editorial and research advisory board members to select one winner based on the breadth and depth of the projects executed or being executed; the relevance of the projects to today’s industry challenges; and the proven impact that the candidate’s initiatives/projects have made on his or her organization.??
Since joining Hillshire Brands, David Stahl’s vision for IT has been to provide leadership, innovation and business solutions that make it easier for employees to do their jobs and for customers to do business with the company. His strategy has focused on four major areas; simplification, modernization, building capabilities for the business and transforming IT’s operating model.
In just 12 months, the results of this strategy include a 38 percent reduction in operating expense as well as a 30 percent reduction in applications. Stahl's management acumen and IT achievements have had a tremendously positive effect on the company, and he is routinely asked to lead initiatives beyond the scope of IT, which is something very unique in the world of CIOs.
"We are excited to announce David Stahl as CGT's 2014 CIO of the Year," says Albert Guffanti, publisher of CGT. "His clear vision has helped to build an IT organization that is dedicated to successfully partnering with the business. For this accomplishment and more, he epitomizes the definition of a modern CIO."??
