General Mills to Close Two Facilities

9/24/2014
General Mills announces a preliminary decision to close its manufacturing facility in Lodi, Calif., and its yogurt manufacturing facility in Methuen, Mass.

General Mills has operated in Lodi since 1947. The plant primarily manufactures cereal. The decision is subject to negotiation with union officials, and it would consolidate manufacturing at other facilities within the General Mills supply chain. If the decision becomes final, the company expects the facility would close near the end of 2015. A closure would impact approximately 430 employees.

General Mills has operated the plant in Methuen since 1993. The company says it is optimizing its yogurt manufacturing network, consolidating production at other facilities within the General Mills supply chain. The company expects the transition to be completed by late summer of 2015. This decision will impact 144 employees. General Mills also says it will provide severance and transition benefits to all affected employees.
