Health Report

11/1/2004

Even though most diet fads come and go faster than a Britney Spears wedding ceremony, there appears to be one universal mission statement about health that rings true from sea to shining sea: A well-balanced diet and plenty of exercise are key ingredients to a quality life. From a business standpoint, this is a worthy tip for consumer goods firms looking to stay one step ahead of competitors while meeting the needs of customers. A manufacturer's supply chain is only as healthy as the products that are feeding it. Firms that don't shed unwanted pounds from their supply chains will lose market share to competitors that are wise to the ways of Wal-Mart and Target.

Harnessing Healthy Habits Certainly, there is a multitude of ways to achieve a healthy bottom line in the business world. That's exactly why this magazine publishes the Top 100 Consumer Goods Registry each year. Simply put, the Top 100 has grown into a valuable resource to not only measure the overall health of specific consumer goods verticals but also to gain a better understanding of successful and innovative IT initiatives from today's top earners. This issue marks the first time that sales figures, stock indicators, analyst commentary and mini-case studies run side by side. It's the ultimate amalgamation of pure-play business and IT strategy. It is important to note, however, that this issue is not a full-fledged revenue/IT guide. New product launches, brand makeovers and other historical highlights are also sprinkled throughout the Top 100. More often than not, these valuable news nuggets are the gateway to attaining a healthy bottom line. How healthy is your company? Turn the page to find out.
