Impact of Mobility to the CG Industry

For years, enterprises have deployed mobile applications to improve productivity among mobile workers in sales, delivery, field services and other functional areas. As consumers adopt more powerful smartphones and increasingly engage with applications on mobile devices, this opens up additional communication channels for enterprises to interact with their customers.

During a live CGT Web event on Nov. 24, 2009, mobility leaders in the consumer goods industry - AT&T and Spring Wireless - revealed how these cutting-edge, emerging solutions can improve performance in the following areas:

-- Consumer engagement in the store and at home
-- Sales force management and Maintenance and Repair
-- Promotion execution and revenue
-- Distribution and customer satisfaction

Here are some highlights from the Web event:

--Rob Russell, director, Industry Solutions - CPG, Retail and Hospitality, for AT&T kicked off the event by reviewing the consumer packaged goods (CPG) and retail ecosystems. "The efficient and connected supply chain marries technology with business operations," he said. Russell also revealed some of the more mature mobility solutions for supply chain and logistics in the CPG sector including mobile workforce and fleet management, transportation management, mobile inventory/RFID solutions, telepresence and direct store delivery (DSD) and merchandising. Russell discussed other mobile solutions in retail store operations, marketing and merchandising, admin and management and more.

--Suhas Uliyar, chief solution architect for Spring Wireless rounded out the event by focusing on real-world deployments. "As market leaders in delivering effective mobile solutions to consumer goods companies, we have analyzed the key challenges that these companies have faced within various sub-segments within this industry," said Uliyar. He explained that through interactions with customers, Spring Wireless has learned that just beyond getting simple screens on small devices, consumer goods companies are looking for more intelligence and collaborative business processes that really enable them to drive a higher sales force effectiveness. Uliyar continued by sharing four strategic drivers for mobility, followed by the impact of mobility in the real time enterprise with case studies and best practices from L'Oreal, Kraft Foods, Sara Lee, Procter & Gamble, Whirlpool, A-B InBev and much more.
