Kimberly-Clark Ships Gen 2 RFID-Tagged Cases to Wal-Mart

Kimberly-Clark (K-C) Corporation reports that it has shipped approximately 100,000 Gen 2 RFID-tagged cases of Huggies brand diapers and other infant and child care products to Wal-Mart since March 2006. Using Gen 2 hardware and software, K-C encoded RFID tags, placed them on the cases, captured and transferred product data into its supply chain system, and forwarded the data to Wal-Mart, letting K-C know its product order had been shipped. This latest step in the implementation of RFID technology is a result of K-C's research and testing on the compatibility of Gen 2 hardware and software with conveyor, packaging, logistics and shipping systems in its Auto-ID research lab in Neenah, Wisconsin.

According to Cheryl Perkins, K-C's senior vice president and chief innovation officer, the announcement "solidifies our goal of partnering with customers to improve fundamental business processes and deliver greater value. As we continue to deploy Gen 2 RFID technology throughout our supply chain infrastructure, we expect to experience improved efficiencies that will help ensure we deliver the right product to the right customer at the right time."
