LEGO Celebrates New Distribution Center

Children's toy manufacturer LEGO Group recently celebrated the grand opening of its Roanoke, Texas, distribution center with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The new facility, managed by Exel, is part of LEGO Group's strategy to outsource its North American production, distribution and fulfillment operations to better serve key North American markets. Exel is the selected retail distribution partner for the United States and Canada and provides warehouse management, order fulfillment and transportation services, shipping LEGO products to more than 27,000 locations throughout North America. The 405,200-square-foot center has been up and running since April 2007, employing more than 120 associates during the peak season and will expand the services it offers to include foreign trade zone management in 2008. "We're very pleased with the new distribution center and our partnership with Exel," says Soren Torp Laursen, president, LEGO Systems Inc., the North American division of the LEGO Group. "The convenient location for inbound shipments and order management services provided by Exel allow us to meet our retail partners' expectations more consistently and efficiently."
