Making The List

11/1/2006
Last month I told you I could not believe it was fall, and now here I am thinking about winter and holidays and the New Year. I don't know what it is about the close of 365 days that makes people write lists; there always seem to the be the top 100 songs; the top 50 most influential people; the top 20 most memorable events, etc. Well, here at CGT we are no different. In this second-to-last month of the year, it is customary for us to list the top 100 consumer goods companies (Page 17). We break them out into vertical markets, highlight the No. 1 companies and few others in each category, and call-out something interesting about each. Whether it is a technology story, strategies from their annual report or product innovation, we present succinct and relevant information. It's tedious work, involving a lot of research, but fun too when I realize that no matter how many companies I read about or cover there is always another that makes me say . . . "I didn't know they made that!" or "Wow, that's their brand?!"

If you attended our first annual Growth & Innovation Forum or could not be there and want to see some highlights, there are pictures and a wrap-up (Page 16). The event was highly successful! If you missed it and want more information for next year, contact me; it was revealing, fun and a unique opportunity to gain insight from leading CG innovators. Also, check out our 2006 Shared Strategy Study to see how the state of retailer and manufacturer collaboration has changed from last year.

Also, I want to say a special "congratulations" to the CGT innovation and technology award winners, which will be covered in our December issue. We will continue to keep an eye on you for your achievements. I welcome your comments and suggestions -- e-mail [email protected]
