Consumer Goods Technology and RIS News are pleased to be able to partner with Gartner in presenting "Managing the Shelf", a truly collaborative outlook on category management within the consumer goods and retail industries. Surprisingly, a lot of similarities exist between the two camps as it relates to category management effectiveness, responsibilities and the need for automation. The breadth and depth of data that retail respondents say they share with their suppliers was also a bit of a surprise, but making sense of multiple forms of retail data ' that's where the challenge lies for consumer goods manufacturers. Ushering in the next generation of category management strategy will require just as much focus on IT prowess as mastering the fundamentals, like collaboration and trust. Okay, so maybe trust will always be an issue, but with benchmark studies like the one you now hold in your hands, the opportunity to invigorate stalled relationships by opening the lines of communication exists.
