Shell Upgrades Global Unified Communication Platform

9/17/2014
AT&T* and Shell sign a five-year agreement to migrate 150,000 employees and contractors in over 50 countries to a new unified communications platform that will allow them to connect to each other – via instant messaging, voice, web and video conferencing, and application sharing  – using a single, intuitive interface. The announcement aims to represent AT&T's most comprehensive unified communication deployment to date for a single business customer.

Shell employees will be able to connect to one another using a wide range of connected devices such as PCs, tablets and smartphones. The solution enables voice, data files (such as slides, spreadsheets and other documents) and video sharing across all major mobile operating platforms including Windows, Windows Phone, iOS and Android in a fully managed environment.

This creates a more efficient working environment as phone numbers and voice mail are not fixed to a specific device or location. Calls can be made to an entire team dispersed around the globe – many in harsh or inaccessible locations. Advanced video tools encourage the adoption of videoconferencing and will allow for virtual working.
