Top 10: Supply Chain Execution

1/1/2007
1. SAP
Delivering on its commitment to help companies adapt processes and optimize revenue across the most cost-intensive global trade operations, SAP AG recently released a new transportation management functionality for mySAP Supply Chain Management (mySAP SCM). Building on SAP's existing transportation management software, used today by more than 2,200 companies worldwide, the new functionality delivers enhancements in the areas of ocean shipping management and transportation planning. The new functionality provides enhanced planning capabilities for current transportation planning and vehicle scheduling customers while at the same time introduces new business processes for mySAP SCM customers. It also brings functionality for scheduling, routing, regulatory compliance and customs processes to the mySAP SCM application and the SAP for Logistics Service Providers solution portfolio, addressing global demand for an end-to-end transportation management solution spanning enterprise and information network boundaries.

2. ORACLE
Like most consumer products manufacturers, Thermos L.L.C. faced increased requirements from big retailers to deliver orders faster and more accurately, among other challenges. In response Thermos initiated a major overhaul of its business- process and information systems. It invested in an integrated suite of enterprise software from Oracle, which included Oracle Warehouse Management as well as Oracle Order Management. Now, better inventory control is helping Thermos ship more products on time and meet tough new delivery-performance standards. "With more demanding on-time requirements, inventory accuracy is essential," says Mike Yeager, director of logistics, Thermos. "With Oracle's Warehouse Management module, the

accuracy level is so high that our auditors no longer require us to take physical inventory." Thermos planned for four days for its most recent audit but managed to complete it in just four hours due to the Oracle implementation. In the past, physical inventory could take two weeks to complete.

3. MANHATTAN ASSOCIATES
Manhattan Associates provides Wacoal America, the designer and manufacturer of intimate apparel under the Wacoal name, with a warehouse management solution for both inbound receiving and outbound order processing. In 1996, evaluation of the company's manual, paper-based distribution process revealed that out-of-date practices might limit future brand expansion. Wanting to offer exceptional customer service to its growing customer base and growing demand for customized shipping labels prompted Wacoal to pursue an automated warehouse management solution, which turned out to be Manhattan Associates. A key benefit of the warehouse management solution is its ability to automatically track and ensure UCC-128 label compliance with the top 100 U.S. retailers, allowing Wacoal to comply with the shipping regulations of some of its largest and most important customers. Since implementation, Wacoal experienced a significant gain in productivity as well as order processing speed. Orders that once took days to fill can now be turned around within hours.
