Wal-Mart Enhances Data Warehouse

12/20/2010
Wal-Mart announces agreement to broaden its partnership with Teradata Corporation.

"As this partnership is expanded, we will be able to leverage scalability, processing power, and storage capacity, along with software enhancements," says Jose Hernandez, Wal-Mart's chief technology officer and senior vice president of infrastructure. "Consistent with our sustainability initiatives, this expansion will result in a significant reduction in our data center power and cooling footprint."

The agreement includes an upgrade and expansion of Wal-Mart's data warehouse environment to provide next-generation capabilities. The Teradata technology is expected to offer an expected 50 percent reduction in floor space required and a 40 percent reduction in energy consumption.

The planned expansion includes a data warehouse technology refresh program which aims to keep Wal-Mart's data warehouse on the leading edge of technology adoption. The agreement also includes a research and development relationship to strengthen the company's competitive retail advantage.
