Walmart Announces Acquisition on Newly Launched Blog
Walmart launches its new corporate blog, utilizing it to announce that it is also acquiring Yumprint, a start-up company in the recipes and meal planning space.
According to the blog, Chad Mitchell, senior director for Walmart Digital Communications, writes, “Our goal with this new channel is to tell real stories that you might not have heard, and our hope is that we can bring you a renewed perspective about our company.”
Mitchell continues, “I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to introduce you to some of the real people that make Walmart great. Here, you’ll meet our associates who serve customers in stores every day, military veterans who are building careers in retail, people working to improve the food we eat, and people who give back to their community. You’ll also meet people who are working to protect the environment, a story we began telling on The Walmart Green Room, and that will continue here.”
The company hopes to also announce news on the blog and likely tackle some tough issues at times.
Mitchell explains that with 2.2 million associates and almost 11,000 stores around the world, it’s easy to only focus on the big picture. “Our goal with this blog is to tell real stories that you might not have heard, and our hope is that we can bring you a renewed perspective about our company.”
Transforming online grocery shopping with Yumprint
VP, Gobal Products for Walmart Global E-Commerce, Ben Galbraith, recently made an announcement in the new blog about acquiring Yumprint. “Did you know Walmart is the largest grocer here in the United States? It’s true; our best-selling item in the U.S. is bananas, and more than 140 million Americans visit us each week to stock up their pantry and pick up some other items along the way,” he writes.
“I’m pleased to announce another step we’re making in our journey to renovate the shopping experience: @WalmartLabs is acquiring Yumprint, an exciting start-up in the recipes and meal planning space. Yumprint founders Chris Crittenden and Wes Dyer had a vision for how technology can improve the way all of us discover and prepare our meals. Their website, iPhone app and browser extension are among the ideas they’ve brought to food lovers, helping them discover, search and save recipes from any web site,” says Galbraith.
