What are America's Greatest Brands?

1/10/2012
The year 2011 provided a bumpy ride, filled with turbulent economic uncertainty, yet the brands featured in the ninth edition of “America’s Greatest Brands” landed safely and are thriving.

Each year, the American Brands Council evaluates nominated brands on several criteria, including brand quality, resilience and longevity; customer loyalty; market leadership; and social responsibility. The end result is a book featuring 45 companies, showcasing their history, achievements and brand impact.

“A great brand becomes an icon, part of a relationship we reach for, a familiar friend. Some of these brands are the ones we grew up with, expanding and enhancing their contacts with us over time. These precious brands we share from one generation to the next. They have withstood the movement of time, the hardships of our history as a nation, and global economic fragility,” says Lesley Meyer, a Director of America’s Greatest Brands. “They are pillars of strength and endurance that — through perseverance and creativity — continue to capture consumers’ confidence.”

So, which consumer goods brands were deemed “America’s Greatest Brands” alongside big names like Walmart, NASCAR and UPS? Here is the list in alphabetical order:

•Alka Seltzer
•Arrow
•Campbell’s
•Crayola
•Crest
•Hartz
•Land O’Lakes
•Oreo
•Rawlings
•Thomas’
•Tumi

The brands are chosen by the American Brands Council, a distinguished group of advertising, marketing and communications leaders representing such firms as Fleishman-Hillard, Ogilvy & Mather, DDB Wordwide, and Saatchi & Saatchi.

Commenting on his company’s inclusion in the book, Chris Policinski, president and CEO of Land O’Lakes, says, “Being recognized as one of America’s Greatest Brands reflects Land O’Lakes’ rich history of progress and innovation, as well as consumer and customer confidence in our products, services and values.”
