2015 Review & Outlook: Prioritizing for Growth

3/17/2015
The 2015 edition of CGT’s Review & Outlook Report features the movers and shakers of our industry: The influencers and leaders that are laying the groundwork today for greater success tomorrow, and well beyond. This year, we asked over 100 of the industry’s brightest minds to respond to one seemingly simple question:

Which business or technology initiative should take top priority in 2015/2016 for consumer goods companies?

While there weren’t any radical new initiatives identified, a few important yet subtle shifts are quite telling about how companies are moving forward.

SECTIONS FEATURED:

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL / INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) TRENDS
This section is no stranger to prioritizing data, but this year the focus has shifted from a mere buzzword, to a call for a single repository, and the need to ultimately make data actionable. Digital transformation and the Internet of Things are also emerging trends to watch.

INNOVATION TRENDS
The authors in this section focus a great deal on the pace of change in the industry, and how timing impacts innovation in the market. They explore investments in key technologies (like digital and consumer insights) that can help CG companies react quickly and stay nimble to keep their brands top-of-mind.

SALES & MARKETING TRENDS
It’s no surprise that this section continues to remain the largest, as the impact of social media and mobile technology (and newer technologies like beacons and 3D printing) are quickly changing the shopper experience.

SUPPLY CHAIN TRENDS
Although the experts get a bit more tactical in this section, themes like transparency and data integration stand out, emphasizing the need for collaboration across departments.
