Colgate-Palmolive Pushes Further Into Decision Intelligence

Colgate-Palmolive is expanding its decision intelligence pilot to to optimize product deployment decisions throughout its Hill's Science Diet and Hill's Prescription Diet fulfillment network. 

The company is teaming with Aera Technology on automation efforts surrounding complex decision-making for the expanding Hill’s Pet Nutrition division. The technology, which marries data and advanced analytics to improve a businesses’ decision-making effectiveness,  considers customer prioritization, safety stock, and forecasted demand to provide optimal product allocation.

It's already being used at three of Hill’s plants and has helped improve their stock deployment operations, according to a statement from Aera.

“Partnering with the Aera team, we are reinventing our decision-making processes to maximize value across our Hill’s business, and we expect to expand our use of Decision Intelligence at Colgate-Palmolive,” said Bawana Radhakrishnan, worldwide director of global supply chain digital transformation, Colgate-Palmolive.

Aera's technology is designed to use custom, digitized decisions to analyze and provide recommendations for various business problems. This includes optimizing decisions about shipping location, predicting product allocation across its fulfillment network, and using a single source of truth to help automate decision-making. 

Fred Laluyaux, Aera Technology CEO, said that Colgate-Palmolive has already driven early, positive results through the adoption of the self-service capabilities. 

Supply Chain Investments

The No. 30 publicly owned consumer goods company, Colgate-Palmolive previously fueled the advancement of their supply chain analytics by deploying a dedicated analytics catalyst team, allowing them to democratize analytics throughout their operations.

They also established an analytics engagement lead role as an organizational coach focusing on socializing, educating, and facilitating analytics within Colgate-Palmolive. 

The supply chain analytics program started with a development program, which included a bespoke training program for all supply chain leaders. This allowed their leadership team to discuss different topics concerning developing an analytics culture, data as a strategic asset, and the importance of building data analytics and collaborating in data analytics.
