Estee Lauder Names Jane Lauder as First Chief Data Officer

Jane Lauder has been named executive VP, enterprise marketing and chief data officer of The Estée Lauder Companies, marking the first time the company has had such a role.

Lauder had served as global brand president at the company’s Clinique brand. She will be succeeded by Michelle Freyre, who’s joining July 1 from Johnson & Johnson to serve as Clinique’s senior VP, general manager.

Fabrizio Freda, president and CEO of The Estée Lauder Companies, cited Lauder’s experience in leveraging data and analytics capabilities to drive long-term growth at both the brand and enterprise level.

"Jane’s unique combination of understanding high-touch consumer experiences, and data analytics and insights, will further strengthen our innovative product offerings and experiences for our consumers globally,” he said in a statement.

Lauder has spent more than two decades at the company founded by her grandparents, Estée and Joseph Lauder, in 1946. Under her tenure, the Clinique brand tripled its online business and shifted a third of its product revenue to high-growth channels. She also oversaw the development of Clinique Clinical Reality, in which consumers can receive skin analysis using their smartphones for more personalized services.

In her new role, reporting to Freda, Lauder will lead global and regional corporate marketing consumer and product marketing insights, global consumer care and marketing planning, and advertising and promotion effectiveness. This will include enhancing the integration of cross-channel data to drive personalized marketing and omnichannel activation, as well as continuing to lead The Estée Lauder Companies’ enterprise-wide data and analytics transformation program.

At Clinique, Freyre will be tasked with guiding the brand’s overall strategic vision and consumer and digital engagement. She will also work to imagine the future of the retail experience, including Clinical Reality, Virtual Selling and High Touch services, the company said.

She spent 20 years with Johnson & Johnson, most recently as its president of U.S. beauty, where she implemented a new celebrity talent and influencer strategy for its beauty portfolio.

Freyre began her career in brand management at PepsiCo.  

The Estée Lauder Companies is No. 44 on the CGT Top 100 Consumer Goods Companies of 2019 ranking. It counts such brands as Aramis, Clinique, Prescriptives, Lab Series, Origins, Tommy Hilfiger and MAC under its umbrella.
