Maytag Looks For New Repairman
The Maytag brand recently conducted a nationwide search for the new Maytag repairman, the longest running real-life advertising character on network television. Since 1967, only three actors have played the lonely Maytag repairman character. According to the company, the new Maytag Repairman is a major component of Whirlpool Corporation's commitment to revitalizing the brand and its tradition of quality and dependability. Those eligible to audition don't have to be professional actors and can even be real repairmen, but to be considered, "the applicant must be energetic, young at heart and outgoing." The company carefully considered allowing woman to audition, but based on research the character will remain a man. Auditions were held in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago and via mail. A decision is expected to be made by the end of this month. //
