MPOWERD Names CEO

3/5/2015
MPOWERD announces that its Board of Directors has recently promoted Scott Kling, the company’s President and Chief Operating Officer, to Chief Executive Officer. Kling was named COO at the end of 2013 and in May 2014 was promoted to President.

Since becoming President, Kling has managed MPOWERD’s day-to-day operations and led it through a period of strong growth. During his tenure MPOWERD’s revenue nearly tripled in 2014, thanks largely to the launch of CES award-winning products and the expansion of the Luci product line into more than 700 U.S. retailers and 70 international markets.

“Through Scott’s leadership and over 25 years of experience, MPOWERD is set to become the world’s first major solar consumer products company. It was a natural fit to promote him to CEO,” says Valarie Gelb, chairman of MPOWERD’s Board of Directors. Before joining MPOWERD, Kling was CEO of SolarX and held executive positions with such consumer product companies as Jarden, Amazon, Tyco Toys, and RoseArt.

In addition to Kling’s promotion, MPOWERD’s Board of Directors appointed Valarie Gelb as Chairman of the Board and appointed two new directors, Mark Sperry and Michael Pecoraro.

Gelb, who has served on the MPOWERD board since 2013, is CEO and founder of TheBarnYardGroup, a consulting firm that provides branding solutions to Fortune 500 companies. Gelb brings to the Board 30 plus years of experience in senior management and leadership in both business and philanthropy. Earlier she was a senior executive and global Chief Sales Development Officer for MasterCard Worldwide and CEO of the Global Fund for Women.

Mark Sperry is an accomplished leader in the industrial and energy sectors with 30 years of experience in both startup and Fortune 50 companies. Currently, he is the President and CEO of Sperry Energy, a strategic advisory firm for energy-related companies. Earlier, Sperry was CEO of H2Pump; Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President at Plug Power, one of the world’s leading fuel cell system manufacturers; and Vice President at Xerox Corporation.

Michael Pecoraro is Chief Investment Officer and Co-founder of White Pine Investment Management, a New York-based hedge fund. Previously he served as Chief Investment Officer of JPMorgan Asset Management, leading a team of over 40 investment professionals managing over $300 billion in securities. Pecoraro brings to his new role a strong understanding of global macroeconomic trends, risk-management techniques, and a quantitative approach to problem solving.
