PMI Moving HQ To CT

Philip Morris International (PMI) is picking up sticks and moving to the country.

The company, which announced a new president of Americas earlier this month, is relocating its headquarters from New York to Southern Connecticut, although it didn’t specify the town or city.

The new office is expected to become operational by next summer and will house the Americas teams and members of other corporate functions.

The move will bring about 200 jobs to the state, according to a statement. PMI employs a workforce of more than 71,000 worldwide, and the No. 17 consumer goods company will retain its Operations Center in Lausanne, Switzerland, to continue supporting its global business.

Jacek Olczak, PMI CEO, said the new area is an ideal location for its U.S. head office as it offers a mix of tech know-how, future-forward thinking and an open-minded approach to problem solving.

“We are amid a profound transformation at PMI, and our new base in Connecticut will serve to accelerate our progress,” he added. “Beyond replacing cigarettes with better alternatives, we intend to draw on our expertise in life and medical sciences to develop solutions in areas that include respiratory drug delivery and botanicals. Through our product innovations, sustainability leadership, people-centered employment practices, and community involvement, we intend to be a source of pride for the state.”
