Ricola Dual Action to Launch Globally

After a successful U.S. launch of Ricola Dual Action, reportedly achieving $5 million in sales after six months, Ricola plans to roll out its new cough/sore throat drops globally starting in Europe.
 
The Ricola USA team turned to innovation software provider Affinnova, Inc. to test and optimize a concept for the dual-action cough drop.
 
“When we came to Affinnova, we had a general idea—we believed that there was a need for an herbal, dual-action cough and sore throat drop,” says Melissa Robinson, director of innovation for Ricola USA. “What we didn’t know was the best product form, packaging and claims.”
 
The Ricola marketing team utilized Concept Studio, Affinnova’s cloud-based concept collaboration and development application, to create over 2,500 possible dual-action cough drop concepts. The winning product incorporated a liquid center that required additional R&D and manufacturing investment.
