Target + Techstars Program Brings in 500 Applications From Startups

4/12/2016
Last October, Target put out the call to startups worldwide to apply for the Target + Techstars accelerator program, led by Managing Director Ryan Broshar and West Stringfellow, vice president of internal innovation and operations at Target. Startups that are accepted into the program will be offered investment capital, along with mentor support from Target executives, plus access to Techstars’ network of successful entrepreneurs, mentors, investors and other partners.

Applications are now closed and Target reports it received more than 500 applications from tech-based startups, hailing from 45 countries and 32 U.S. states. Ideas submitted range from connected toys to virtual fitting rooms.

Now Target will narrow the pool down to 10 startups who’ll relocate to Minneapolis, starting in June. Target is building 8,000 square feet of space for the accelerator companies at its Minneapolis headquarters. Once here, they’ll be provided with resources and guidance from mentors like chief strategy and innovation officer Casey Carl, president of Target.com and mobile Jason Goldberger and more.
