Walmart, P&G Drive QR Code Campaign in NYC
Walmart has partnered with Procter & Gamble to promote online and mobile shopping in New York City with @PGMobile, a month-long initiative. A truck covered with QR codes for several P&G products, including Bounty paper towel, Head & Shoulders shampoo and Iams dog food, will visit a dozen popular locations in the city throughout the month of June. These locations include The Fashion District, Union Square Park and the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party.
New Yorkers can use their mobile phones to scan the products that are instantly added to their Walmart.com shopping cart. Consumers can also request through Twitter that the truck make a visit to their neighborhood.
P&G and Walmart will give away 200,000 sample packages, including the Gillette Fusion ProGlide razor and Downy Unstoppables laundry scent-freshener.
"We truly believe (buying consumer packaged goods products online is) the future," said Tim Marrin, spokesperson for P&G. "But people have yet to really adopt buying consumables online. We think having free delivery, and getting this message out to urban shoppers who don't have access to Walmart stores, is a great first start."
