You Can't Help But Be Inspired

2/21/2011
As a journalist, it is my job to be objective. But some stories make that task very difficult. The cover story this month with eco-innovator TerraCycle is the perfect example. I know my fellow CGT editors will stand behind me when I say, "I love this company!"

At 75 people strong, the small company has made a BIG impact on our industry in North America and is now replicating that success worldwide. In partnership with consumer goods firms of all sizes, it has made respectable progress toward eliminating the idea of waste by upcycling or recycling "non-recyclable" materials into viable consumer products. An interview with the company's founder Tom Szaky left me totally inspired. He talks a mile a minute, and after 40 of them, I was left wondering how many hours he sleeps at night with so many ideas swirling around in his head. Yet, I found myself hanging onto every word because I knew I was in the presence of one of the most influential thinkers of our time.

So there you have it ... objectivity out the window. But it still amounts to a must-read story, especially for folks in this industry who have equally important roles when it comes to making the world more livable with healthier, greener products.

Now that I am done gushing, I would like to turn your attention toward two other "must-reads" in this digital issue. In line with the theme of innovation, both adidas Group and Columbia Sportswear are on hand to reveal the new ways in which they are developing and delivering products to market.

Plus, the annual Consultant Report features insights from two thought-leaders on emerging technologies worth adopting, successful business initiatives worth imitating and much more.
