Ferrero Group To Acquire Power Crunch

Global confectionary company Ferrero Group is expanding its snack portfolio by acquiring Power Crunch from Bio-Nutritional Research Group.

The move is part of Ferrero’s efforts to expand its presence in the better-for-you segment, following acquisitions of Fulfil and Eat Natural in Europe. The company acquired candy brands Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, and Crunch and cookie brands Keebler, Famous Amos, and Mother's from Nestlé in 2018 as well as Iowa-based ice cream company Wells Enterprises in 2022.

Power Crunch was founded in 1996 and includes a portfolio of products in the protein snack category, including wafer bars and high-protein crisps. The purchase includes Power Crunch’s Irvine, Calif., office and its approximately 50 employees.

Industry Moves

Ferrero recently announced it is also extending its manufacturing capabilities for its North American chocolate business, moving outside of Europe to invest in a  $214-million-dollar facility in Bloomington, Ill.

Recent acquisitions in the better-for-you snack foods category include PepsiCo’s purchase of multicultural food brand Siete Foods. The $1.2 billion purchase is expected to finalize in the first half of 2025. Also, last year, Campbell Soup Company sold off its Pop Secret popcorn business to Our Home, a better-for-you snack company.
