Reginaldo Ecclissato will become chief supply chain officer at Unilever, succeeding the retiring Marc Engel.

Currently executive VP Mexico, Central America and Greater Caribbean, Ecclissato has been with the consumer goods company for three decades, joining Unilever Brazil in 1991 and leading the company’s sustainability initiatives at the regional level.

He’s worked across Unilever’s developed and emerging markets, including serving as executive VP of Unilever’s Americas supply chain prior to his current role.

Under Ecclissato, who will also join the company’s leadership executive team, Unilever recently announced plans to increase production at four of its plants in Mexico, investing around $277 million over the next three years.

The new role goes into effect. Jan. 1, 2022. Engel, who has also been with the company for 30 years, will depart in April 2022.

“I am … very pleased that, in Reginaldo, we have an internal successor with extensive supply chain experience, who has overseen significant business growth and brought impressive leadership to the Mexico, Central America and Greater Caribbean region,” said Alan Jope, Unilever CEO, in a statement.

As with many consumer goods companies, Unilever is navigating supply chain and inflation issues. Jope said to CNBC last month it was witnessing “once in two-decade inflationary pressure” and though it was accelerating its productivity programs, it too had to raise prices.

The company is currently evolving its business strategy to move into areas of higher-growth potential, stocking its portfolio with purpose-led brands and leaning more heavily into its sustainability commitments.
