Cathryn Sleight has been elevated to chief growth officer of Mars Wrigley, tasked with leading the brand’s global marketing, innovation, insights, analytics and business development.
Currently president of global business development for the consumer goods company — named one of the best places to work earlier this year — Sleight has been a member of the company’s leadership team since joining last August. Her new role will expand her duties to include end-to-end responsibility for global category growth.
Sleight is replacing Berta de Pablos Barbier, who’s leaving in September after 18 years with the company to pursue an international move back home with her family.
In a statement, Sleight noted the strong growth potential of the treating and snacking segments. “The opportunity to strengthen the legacy of our brands, continuing to make them relevant for today’s occasions, and inspire more smiles across the globe is a great brief,” she said.
Prior to joining Mars Wrigley, Sleight held a variety of leadership roles at Unilever, including executive VP of foods, executive VP of global savory and global VP of Knorr. She’s also held roles at The Coca-Cola Company and Allied Domecq.
“I’m delighted to expand Cathryn’s remit and bring together the critical core capabilities required to deliver category growth. She will continue to drive excellence in how we utilize our global reach, iconic brands and brilliant Associates to build the category and evolve how brands connect with consumers,” said Andrew Clarke, Mars Wrigley global president.
Mars, Incorporated generates $40 billion in annual sales, with such brands as M&Ms, Orbit, Uncle Ben’s and Whiskas under its umbrella. Chief Digital Officer Sandeep Dadlani was CGT’s CIO of the Year last year.
